Uncertainty over B&Q store future as parent company announces closures
A DIY giant does not know if its Braintree Freeport store will stay open after its parent company said one in six outlets in the UK will close.
Kingfisher said the closures will take place over the next two years and could affect up to 3,000 jobs in 60 stores.
A spokesman for B&Q said: “We do not yet have a list. Our priority is to make sure that our staff and colleagues are made aware of the situation.”
When asked if the announcement could affect plans to move to one of two proposed larger sites near Braintree Freeport the spokesman said: “It’s not something we can comment on.”
