A SCHOOL in Braintree has cancelled its trip to Belgium and France following terrorist attacks in Paris.

The trip had been due to take place to Lile, France and Ypres, Belgium, today, but was cancelled following advice from the Home office.

After the attacks in paris on Friday, November 13, which killed around 130 people, a number of concerned parents phoned up to pull their children off the trips, organised by Alec Hunter Academy.

One parent, who has a 13-year-old son at the school, said: "I phone dup on the Monday after it happened and was told that an email would be sent out.

"The next day I heard back from them and was told the trip would still be going ahead and safety precautions had been put in place after talking to the Home office, but they wouldn't say what they were.

"At that point I said he wasn't going and was told I would lose the £80 that I had paid. That doesn't bother me; I'm not putting a price on my son's head.

"What if the police were going to do a counter-attack while they were there?"

Mrs Wright, a teacher at the school, said: "The trip was cancelled because of the terrorist attacks and they will be taking place at a later date following advice from the Home Office and other organisations.

"We had parents that were concerned and they were informed that we would be monitoring the situation before we chose to cancel the trip. We would never want to put the students at risk; we can't help the terrorist attacks."

Other schools with planned trips to France in the New Years told the Times they would continue to review the situation.
