A WOMAN has been jailed for five years after conning £105,000 from a vulnerable 69-year-old.

Roseanne Oakley, of Woodland Way, Ipswich, befriended the woman who had learning difficulties and invited her to live with her in a caravan in Felsted before conning her into thinking they had become best friends.

The fraudster then drained the woman's bank account over a period of two months.

Following an investigation by Braintree detectives, Oakley, 41, was charged with theft and pleaded guilty.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard on Friday Oakley had previously stolen £9,000 from a woma suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.

Investigating officer det con Mike Pannell, who led the year-long enquiry into Oakley’s crimes said: "The judge described Oakley as a disgrace and I can think of no better way of putting it myself.

"She has taken the victim’s entire left savings and left her destitute.

"She had no compassion for this poor lady whatsoever and I am pleased that she will be off the streets of Essex for a number of years.

"We will continue to go after anyone suspected of exploiting the vulnerable members of our communities and I would urge everyone to keep an eye out for those in their streets who could be groomed and abused in this way.

"If you suspect something is not right then please report it to us before it is too late.

"We will leave no stone unturned in pursuing offenders in these cases so we can put them before the courts.”
