AN ART group hosted a milestone exhibition of extra significance.

Witham Art and Sketch Club are celebrating their 45th birthday and held their annual exhibition at Witham’s United Reformed Church on Newland Street on August 13.

The group, which has more than 30 members, holds the exhibition every year for members to showcase their work to the public and help build interest in what they do.

More than £250 was raised from the sale of artwork.

The meetings are currently so popular that there is a waiting list to attend and some members have been involved for more than 30 years.

Robert Finlay, chairman of the club, said: “We had quite a good day, over 100 people came through the door. We were very pleased with that number.

“I think people were impressed with what they saw. People were pleasantly surprised.

“We are all really close as a group and you get accepted straight away if you are a new member.

“We have got a lot of great artists, we all help each other out and we do not have a set plan for meetings.”
