AN all-singing, all-dancing Broadway musical bursts on to the stage next month, packed with Gershwin hits.

Witham Amateur Operatic Society is staging Crazy For You for its latest production.

The storyline sees budding entertainer Bobby Child (Matt Scott) torn between leading a life in theatre or running the family bank.

Following the orders of his mother, he heads to Deadrock, Nevada, to close a rundown theatre where he meets Polly Baker (Sophie Holmes) and falls madly in love.

To win her affections Bobby decides to save the theatre by putting on a show to raise enough money to buy back the venue.

He calls in his friends, the Zangler Follies, all the way from New York City, and casts the locals - a bunch of rundown cowboys - to put on a show to reprieve the old building.

Polly falls for the enthusiastic young man, but feels angry and betrayed when she discovers that he comes from the bank.

In a desperate bid to spend time with the furious Polly, Bobby disguises himself as Bela Zangler, of the Zangler Follies, to direct the show.

But while 'Zangler' is talking up Bobby to the unsuspecting Polly, she is falling for his impersonation of the dashing European.

And when the real Zangler (Stewart Adkins) arrives in town, chaos ensues.

A WAOS spokesman said: "With songs by George and Ira Gershwin such as Embraceable You, I Got Rhythm, They Can’t Take That Away from me and many more, Crazy For You is a musical packed with jazz hands and plenty of tap dancing.

"Following stories of love and hilarious mistaken identity, all woven by beautiful Gershwin musical numbers, every number is a showstopper."

Crazy For You is directed by Aimee Hart and Susannah Edom.

The show is at Witham Public Hall from October 23-28. Performances are at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm Saturday matinee.

Tickets are available now from waos.org/box-office.
