BUDDING Robin Hoods are being urged to take part in an inter-village archery competition which claims to be the first in the Braintree area for nearly 600 years.
Stock Street Farm Barn, in Coggeshall, will host the ‘Fighting Village of the Year Competition’ on May 4 and is encouraging teams to compete.
They will join individuals from Coggeshall, Stisted and Bradwell in the longbow archery competition.
A spokesman for Stock Street Farm Barn said: “We are calling for villages to form mixed teams of three archers.
“They will have some training and fun on Thursday evenings in the weeks running up to the Fighting Village of the Year Competition.
“We are hoping to attract teams from villages local to Coggeshall, including Braintree and Great Tey for some inter-village fun.”
Anyone interested in getting involved will have to complete a minimum of four weeks training and practice to use a longbow safely and effectively.
The practice sessions will take place on Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm at Stock Street Farm Barn.
They will cost £5 per person and be run by Coggeshall-based Outlaws Archers.
The practice sessions leading up to the competition are on March 28, April 4, April 11, April 18, April 25, and May 2.
