THERE is less than two weeks until an amateur drama group performs its next thrilling production.

Witham Amateur Operatic Society (WAOS) is hosting its production of Calendar Girls The Musical from April 22-27, at Witham Public Hall, in Collingwood Road.

The musical follows the real life story of a Yorkshire Women's Institute and several of its members who created a calendar for charity.

They famously posed for and created a daring 'nude' calendar to raise money for charity after one of the group’s husbands died from leukaemia.

Multiple shows are taking place throughout the run and tickets cost £10.50.

This follows on from the society's preview evening on March 27 where a group were able to hear songs from the forthcoming musical.

Witham Amateur Operatic Society chairman Trevor Drury says £8,000 has already been raised for Farleigh Hospice.

WAOS has raised the funds through the sale of their own calendar, which is available online for £8, and through a quiz night in January.

More fundraising is taking place in the run-up to the string of shows.
