Braintree Bowling Club’s Martin Law was given a walk-over in the National Men’s Singles competition as his opponent was unable to play the itemised match.

Martin’s wife Donna then joined him in the National Pairs competition and a close fought match ended in the Braintree pair’s favour as they scored 23 shots to the 19 scored by their their Silver End opponents, Ryan Mann and Jane Holland.

Success continued for Donna Law, now with partner Rita Dodd, in the Ladies’ Essex County Unbadged Pairs when they defeated a duo from Burnham Hillside.

In the ladies’ County Top Club competition, there was a home defeat for Braintree.

Gill Costin contested the singles, while the pairs had Lynn Bottrill and Dodd, Chris Beatty, Olive Hawkins and Pauline Green were in the triples and Danielle Gibbons, Sandra Hearne, Lynda Butcher and Jean Baxter in the fours.

All four of Braintree’s teams competed valiantly, but a very experienced Clacton Bowls Club team won 4-0 in a scoreline that did not really reflect the excellent play of the hosts’ ladies.
