Exning (183) lost to Dunmow (185 for four) by six wickets

Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two

WITH the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two already looking congested, Dunmow's win at Exning had a significant look about it, even at this stage of the season.

Winning his fifth toss in a row, Dunmow skipper Paul Reid chose to bowl first and was rewarded with Matt Gibson, continuing his good form from last week, having both opening batsmen caught behind in figures of two for 48.

Exning’s danger man, Tim Catley, showed his class with some excellent shot-making, but he struggled to find anyone willing to partner him effectively, as Baz Sewell claimed five for 21 and Nav Ali three for 75 as Exning closed on 183.

Dunmow lost Luke Swanston cheaply in reply, but the rest of the innings saw effective partnerships.

Ali (21) and Joe Gallant (64 not out) put on 54 for the second wicket, Gallant and Mark Rosewell 36 for the third, Gallant and Nick Kesingland 41 and finally Gallant and Reid an unbroken 54 to make reasonably light work of the chase.

Dunmow seconds also claimed a victory against West Bergholt in division nine south.

On Saturday, Dunmow firsts travel to Mildenhall while the seconds host Witham thirds.
